Jim Marshall "The Father of Loud" passed away last week. In his honor, we have compiled some scenes from Alan Parsons' Art & Science of Sound Recording that heavily feature Marshall guitar amps and cabinets. Marshall's gear will indeed live on forever.
ASSR Producer Julian Colbeck adds, "Jim brought music gear to the attention of the general public. Everyone, even without any knowledge or interest in music, has heard of the Marshall stack. It became an iconic name that transcended its original purpose."
Sound off in the comments about your own appreciation for Jim Marshall and his revolutionary contribution to music.
The ASSR Team keeps a close eye on our online communities. The current rate of Facebook and Twitter post propagation is enough to make our heads spin at 78 RPM! Sometimes we spot a post that particularly reminds us of the amazing group of followers and fans that keep our sites active.
Today a Facebook post from Ramsey Pietro Nasser read, "Without your APASSR crash course, I don't think the sound would have been so good on this. Thank you!"
He is referring to a film he made, 'Don't Do It!' by The Shoestrung/ Performance Party by Die Freche Muse, as seen below.
We love seeing how ASSR has helped real creative workers throughout the world and it inspires us to continue forward with this enduring project.
Please feel free to post a comment with your own personal projects that have been helped by the ASSR learning series.

On November 4 & 5, 2011, Alan Parsons worked with popular music students from USC Thornton School of Music in an extraordinary class and recording session at the famous Village Studios in West L.A. Mr. Parsons stated, “It took years in training for me to be let loose as an engineer on a recording session. There’s a lot to learn and it’s wonderful that you can now study music technology, recording and performance at schools and colleges all over the world. We think ASSR is an ideal companion to any Music Technology course and we offer an Educational License version especially for schools, complete with teacher access to the Quizzes and more. “
“I had direct contact with students currently attending a course at The USC Thornton School Of Music during a special event in Los Angeles, which was a resounding success. We recorded a new track with an excellent band based at the school. I would like to convey personal thanks to Chris Sampson, the Associate Dean at the school for his part in shaping the whole event.”
Chris Sampson, Associate Dean and Direcotr of the Popular Music at USC Thornton, said "Alan is a natural educator and walked the students through the session step-by-step making sure that they understood each part of the process. He created an atmosphere of collaboration constantly asking for creative input from the students. He was a true mentor. The result was a learning experience that I know made a life-long impression on these young musicians."

I just stumbled upon his list of clients over the past 39 years on his website. Cornish has built and designed pedals for Pete Townshend, Roxy Music, Lou Reed, Ash, and many others.
