Hello - I have a fairly simple question:

What is a good and average recording/mixing level when recording rock, or recording high energy blues music (example: Stevie Ray - Pride & Joy)? I like my recordings to be fairly loud, but smooth at the same time. I heard Alan say he likes -14db as a good level, but to me, it seems too soft. Any tips, suggestions? Thanks in advance :)
