Does anyone have any thoughts, good or bad, about the use of cedar in the main studio? I am wondering what the acoustic characteristics are like, if it is recommended, not recommended, or if it makes a really huge difference what type of hardwood can or should be used. This would be used in the actual recording area on walls and ceiling. Thanks to all for your continued input, C. Kendall.

Cedar is fine. Don't however

Cedar is fine. Don't however forget the use of acoustic treatments though!

Mounting the cedar as slats over a sealed compartment (such as the spaces in the framing of your walls) filled with insulation and placing these slats with varying (i.e. calculated) spacing between them can be used to improve problems with certain frequencies (Modal etc.) - There are calculators online to help you determine the exact spacing between and the width and thickness of the cedar slats.
