I noticed when Alan is describing how separation can be improved by angling the vocal mic up and the guitar mic down, the video shows the guitar mic being angled upwards.
Minor flaw perhaps but could confuse some.

Harrison, the question is how

Harrison, the question is how the directional pattern of the microphone is. The most sensitive direction of this mic does not match with the direction of its main axis. Somewhere in the video it is possible to see the capsule (condenser diaphragm) of the mic inside the external grid. With the mic configured as cardioid or hyper cardioid, its main working direction is perpendicular to the capsule, so, while the mic body points upwards, the mic is really pointing downwards (maybe you can see it better when thinking about a large diaphragm vocal mic and its placement).

You're right

Thanks for pointing that out. I didn't give it a lot of attention and made a wrong assumption - just used to my own instrument condensers - which are on axis.
Possibly I was also thrown by the fact that at about 1:10 - 1:15 in the original setup, the guitar mic is set up exactly the same and later he explicitly states that he is going to angle the mic down - one assumes this would be different to before.

The video is totally

The video is totally educating , it generally helps us learn several things that we do not understand or catch it up at the very first attempt . It actually took me a couple of times of going through the video to actually understand what Alan have been trying to tell . I think for beginners or new studio artist it would take some real hearing power or some kind of good quality in ear headphones to catch the flaws and differences between the sound caused by the mic positions .
